(국영문 동시배포) 한국의 전통놀이·전통음식 등 ‘한국의 유산’ 영문도서 10종 발간

국가유산청(청장 허민)은 국가유산의 해외 홍보 기반을 확장하고자 한국 유산 관련 영문도서 10종*을 제작해 일반 국민과 해외 독자들이 시중 서점과 아마존 등 온·오프라인을 통해 손쉽게 구매할 수 있도록 하였다. 이번에 발간된 영문도서들은 그동안 우리 유산을 소개하는 도서들이 전문적 내용을 담고 있어 일반인들이 이해하기 어렵다는 지적을 반영해 가급적 이해하기 쉽고, 국민들이 쉽게 체감할 수 있는 내용을 담아 기획되었으며 2024년부터 2년간의 준비를 거쳤다. 한국의 전통놀이를 삽화와 함께 소개한 ‘Shall We Play Together’, 전통과 현대가 결합된 한국의 뉴트로 문화 현상을 담은 ‘Korean Newtro’, 명예와 절제, 지혜를 중시한 선비 정신을 현대적 시각에서 조명한 ‘Seonbi Country Korea’, 한국 미학의 철학과 색채를 탐구한 ‘Korean Beauty’, 왕실 복식부터 K-드라마 의상까지 한복의 매력을 소개한 ‘The Hidden Allure of Hanbok’, 삶과 죽음에 대한 한국 전통의 철학을 담은 ‘Inseparable’, 사계절 제철 식재료와 전통 식문화를 소개한 ‘The Four Seasons of Hansik’, 전통 공연문화 속 ‘한’과 ‘흥’을 통해 K-Pop의 문화적 뿌리를 살펴본 ‘The Korean Groove’, 민간신앙을 문화적으로 조명한 ‘Korean Shamanism’, 궁궐 건축과 그 안에서 살아간 사람들의 이야기를 담은 ‘Living Palaces’까지 한국유산의 다양한 측면을 소개하는 총 10종으로 제작되었다. 국내 주요 서점에서 현장 또는 온라인으로 모두 구매할 수 있으며, 아마존 등 해외 유명 사이트에서도 구매 가능하다. 국가유산청은 앞으로도 국가유산의 가치를 담은 국내외 자료를 지속적으로 제작하고, 해외에 홍보하기 위한 다양한 정책을 추진하는 적극행정을 통하여, 전 세계에 우리 국가유산의 가치를 확산하고 문화교류 활성화에 기여해 나갈 계획이다.The Korea Heritage Service (KHS; Administrator: Huh Min) has produced ten* English-language books on Korean heritage in order to expand the foundation for international outreach. These publications are now readily available for purchase by both the general public and overseas readers through bookstores and online platforms such as Amazon.*on Korean games, Newtro, Seonbi, Korean beauty, Hanbok, philosophy of life and death, Hansik (Korean cuisine), Sinmyeong, folk beliefs, and palaces These newly published books were planned in response to criticism that existing publications on Korean heritage tended to be overly specialized and difficult for general audiences to understand. Accordingly, the series was designed to be as accessible and relatable as possible, allowing readers to easily grasp and connect with the content. Preparation for this project took place over two years, beginning in 2024. The ten titles cover a wide range of themes within Korean heritage: Shall We Play Together introduces traditional Korean games with illustrations; Korean Newtro explores the cultural phenomenon of “newtro,” where tradition and modernity intersect; Seonbi Country Korea reinterprets the spirit of the seonbi—valuing honor, restraint, and wisdom—from a contemporary perspective; Korean Beauty examines the philosophy and aesthetics of Korean beauty; The Hidden Allure of Hanbok presents the charm of hanbok, from royal attire to modern K-drama costumes; Inseparable addresses traditional Korean perspectives on life and death; The Four Seasons of Hansik introduces seasonal ingredients and traditional Korean food culture; The Korean Groove traces the cultural roots of K-pop through concepts such as han and heung found in traditional performance culture; Korean Shamanism offers a cultural perspective on folk beliefs; and Living Palaces tells the story of palace architecture and the people who lived within them. All ten books collectively present diverse aspects of Korean heritage. They are available for purchase both in-store and online at major domestic bookstores, as well as on international platforms such as Amazon. The KHS will continue to produce materials that reflect the value of national heritage, both domestically and internationally.
